“Sing Hallelujah to the Lord” – Pray for HK

    2 Min Read

    17 June 2019

In the midst of a political crisis, Christians in Hong Kong are impacting recent extradition protests in an incredible, praise-filled way.

According to one newspaper, Churches across Hong Kong called for mass prayer meetings. During one of these, those present began to sing a simple hymn, “Sing Hallelujah to the Lord”

That night, this short hymn was sung without interval for eight hours, with reports that some were still singing when their next prayer meeting began at 7.30am the next morning!

This hymn has become something of an anthem across the protests, with reports of “Sing Halleljuah to the Lord” being sung in various locations over multiple days.

One Christian leader in Hong Kong wrote on Facebook:

“There are many stories to tell that let us know God is with us: priests and pastors that stayed with their youth in the midst of all the protest, insisting ‘where the sheep are, where the shepherd is also’; pastors that have defended the youth when the riot police advanced; people that have sung hymns with the protestors overnight over the last week, so much that it became the soundtrack of the protest.

Yes God is with us, and we need you to pray for us.”

    Pray For HK

Today, pray for God’s presence and kingdom to come in Hong Kong:

    • Praise God for the widespread anthem of praise in the midst of this situation
    • Pray for peace and for an end to violence
    • Pray for Christians in Hong Kong to have renewed faith, courage and hope in Jesus
