Bella Chris
With Bella and Chris
Welcome to Lectio for Families. This week we are continuing to explore the life of Jesus as told in Mark’s Gospel.

Each day we will simply pray (P.R.A.Y.) together.
P: PAUSING to be still.
R: REJOICING with a Memory Verse and REFLECTING on some verses from the Bible.
A: ASKING God to help us and others.
Y: saying YES to God’s ways.

Pause

We start by pausing and taking a deep breath:

In and out.

In and out.

We remember that God is here, and so together we prepare ourselves to be with God.

Pause

Prayer of Welcome

Jesus, we hear Your invitation, and so we choose to follow You, with all our hearts, with all our minds, with all our souls and with all our strength.

Rejoice

Memory Verse

We REJOICE and celebrate God’s goodness with this week’s memory verse:

God, help us to remember Your Word.

Reflect

Bible Reading

Jesus and His friends were out in the hills and thousands of people had followed them. Today, we’re REFLECTING on what happened next.

Read by Bella
Mark 6:35-38
When it was late in the day, [Jesus’] followers came to him and said, ‘No one lives in this place, and it is already very late. Send the people away so they can go to the countryside and towns around here to buy themselves something to eat.’ But Jesus answered, ‘You give them something to eat.’ They said to him, ‘We would all have to work a month to earn enough money to buy that much bread!’ Jesus asked them, ‘How many loaves of bread do you have? Go and see.’ When they found out, they said, ‘Five loaves and two fish.’

Mark 6:35-38 (NCV)

Mark writes that there were 5,000 men in the crowd, but he didn’t count the women and the children, so there were probably at least 10-20,000 people. It was a HUGE crowd, and they were all starting to get hungry, but there weren’t any shops nearby. So Jesus came up with a plan to feed them all, and it began with a question… ‘What have you got?’

Let’s press pause and talk about today’s question, which is: What’s the biggest crowd of people we’ve ever been in? Do we know how many people there were?

Ask

ASK Prayers

Jesus often uses the things that we’ve already got – our gifts, our experiences, our prayers, our money – to change big things.

Lord Jesus, show us one thing we each have that You could use today?

  • OPTIONAL: PAUSE the audio player now and pray

Sadly, there aren’t just thousands of hungry people in our world today, there are millions.

Father God, it’s hard for us to even imagine that number of people, but You know the names of every one of them. We pray for things to change so that those who are hungry get the food they need.

Bible Reading

As we read the Bible again, let’s listen for a word or a phrase that the Holy Spirit might want to say to us from today’s verses.

YES Prayer

And now, let’s say YES to God together.

Lord Jesus, we give all that we have to You – the things we own and the skills and experiences that we have. We place them all in Your hands – just like the disciples placed the loaves and the fish in Your hands – and we ask You to use them, multiply them, do miracles with them.

Memory Verse

After enjoying this time with God and each other, let’s say our memory verse together:

Closing Prayer

Let’s put a hand on our heart.
Father God, fill us with Your love. Help us to love You, and everything that You’ve made.

Let’s point to our eyes.
Lord Jesus, help us to see You, and to see others the way that You see them too.

Let’s point to our ears.
Holy Spirit, help us to hear You, and give us courage to do what You say.
