Meet the community

Our home is ‘Cityspace’,our quaint little shop building on Northgate in Canterbury. That’s where we meet to pray, eat, learn and laugh together, and that’s also where we open our ‘Cityspace drop-in’ several times a week, welcoming all sorts of people to come in, make themselves at home, talk about their lives and drink huge amounts of tea/coffee.Our opening times vary due to volunteer availability, but if you come by between 3pm and 5pm on a weekday afternoon, there’s a good chance you’ll find us open, and you’d be welcome to stay on for our prayer-time from 5:15-5:30pm

Our Story

Canterbury Boiler Room started in February 2010 when a few of us from different churches across the city decided to start praying and sharing life together. Our dream was to open a space in the city centre where people could come to find friendship and hope, but it took a while to get there. After a few years ‘hidden away’ in the upper floors of an estate agent, our dream came true and we moved into our ‘cityspace’ shop in 2014.Now our life together is about three things:

  • Being a community: sharing life with each other and with the people who come to our shop.
  • Being creative: helping people find the joy and freedom of their own creativity; promoting local artists by selling their work.
  • Praying: for each other, for our guests and for our city, believing that miracles do happen and that hope will have the final word.
